Harbour mornings & West Wight adventures.

A closer look at Yarmouth

Yarmouth makes a gentle introduction to West Wight: a compact harbour town with a pier, a castle and places to pause before heading farther along the coast. It is also the island arrival point for the ferry from Lymington.

Start around the harbour

Watch the boats, explore the town and make time for the pier. This is a good place for a short visit when you do not want a tightly scheduled day. Check access and any pier charges locally.

Add a little history

Yarmouth Castle stands close to the ferry terminal. Nearby Fort Victoria Country Park offers another option for a waterside outing. Verify individual opening times before building the day around an attraction.

Go farther west

Use Yarmouth as a starting point for West Wight rather than trying to fit the whole island into one day. The former railway route towards Freshwater provides a different perspective from the road. Leave enough time for your return journey or ferry check-in.
